If you manually uninstall the QuickTest Agent extension using Tools > Extensions, you must manually reinstall it if you reinstall this hotfix. Support for 64-bit IE Browsers	QTPWEB_00086	This patch enables creating and running steps on 64-bit Internet Explorer browsers. Note: Before installing this patch, you must install the QTP_00699 patch. This patch does not provide 64-bit support for other Web-based environments, for example .NET WebForms, ActiveX, Siebel, PeopleSoft, Web-based SAP and so on. The patch does not support selecting the 64-bit Internet Explorer browser in the Record and Run Settings dialog box. Workaround: Either use the SystemUtil.Run method to open the browser or open it manually. This patch does not provide support for ViewLink test objects in Internet Explorer 9 on 64-bit operating systems.

Updates for HP QTP 11.00 [Critical]	QTP_00709	This patch updates your QuickTest installation with fixes for a number of issues found after the release of QuickTest Professional 11.00. The following issues are being addressed in this patch: If the QTP_00699 – Support Testing on 64-Bit Applications (For Specified Technologies) patch was not installed on 64-bit operating systems, all .NET 4.0 controls on 32-bit applications were recognized as SwfObjects. Recovery scenarios did not work in BPT wrapper tests. Run-time errors were displayed if you ran a business component that contained a QCUtil.CurrentTest.Name step. Function libraries that were created from an application area, opened in read-only mode. In Quality Center 10.00, the Parameters of Test dialog box opened when you added QuickTest 11.00 tests to the execution grid. If a QuickTest test called a Service Test test (and both tests were stored in Quality Center), the run results for the Service Test test were not uploaded to Quality Center at the end of the run session. If you renamed a QuickTest action after inserting a call from it to a Service Test test, an error occurred during the run session. QuickTest crashed or an OS blue screen appeared when using a User-Defined / Non-HLLAPI emulator on Windows 7 with Office 2007/2010 installed. You could not view the baseline history for scripted components that were stored in version control-enabled Quality Center projects. In QuickTest, if you tried to delete an application area that was associated with one or more components, QuickTest mistakenly opened a message box asking you to confirm the deletion of the application area instead of informing you that the application area is in use and providing you with further instructions. This occurred only if the application area was moved to a different location in the Quality Center/ALM Test Resources module after a component was associated with it.

what's new in Unified Functional Testing 11.5 (QTP 11.5)

The latest version of HP-QTP hits the market known as HP Unified Functional Testing(UFT) 11.5 . This is a major change on how is QTP now. QTP and Service Test will be a part of UFT 11.5 software, this has been done to serve end-to-end testing needs. QTP(GUI testing tool) and Service Test(API testing tool) will be available from a single interface, so you need not download two separate tools from now on. A single solution for testing GUIs, APIs and multi layer applications

It is a leap forward in testing modern applications, and it can dramatically improve software quality while cutting testing costs and complexity even in the most rapidly changing environments. This was a much needed and requested feature. You will now be able to debug two or more scripts at the same time from within UFT’s IDE.

HP UFT 11.5 will support open source Continuous Integration(CI) systems like Jenkins and Hudson. [For people with non-development background - CI is a practice normally used in a multi-developer environment where all  developer codebases are merged with the main codebase several times a day]

Mobile Testing Support

Realizing the ‘explosive’ growth of mobile (smart-phones + tablets) platform, HP is putting a lot of focus on this new age tech. UFT 11.5 will provide a better support for mobile testing. With the help of HP UFT Mobile, HP claims that you will be able to create mobile platform agnostic scripts, hence a script created for iOS would be expected to work for Android. The mobile application testing solution will support emulators as well as real devices. The real devices can be sourced from the public cloud of shared real devices and/or private cloud of dedicated real devices.

I really like the fact that the team at UFT is working hard to improve the ‘quality’ and lives of fellow testers and QTP(UFT) is being continually improved for last so many years. With the big name change, overhaul of UI and added features, I think this version deserved to be released as a major version and not the minor one.

Best Practices while using QTP for Automation

Hi Friends,

I would like to share a few best practices while automating an application using QTP:

Planning Automation Activity

• Plan your automation and make sure that you get all the follwing things ready before you go for automation:
• Get the test cases ready
• Get the test data required for automation ready
• Mark the priority of the test cases which will help you to complete the priority things get automated first
• Select the test cases from the stable part of the application first which ensure the minimum mainatenace to the automation script

Design the automation framework

• Once the basic things are ready for automation, get ready with the Object Repository
• Define the standard keywords for your application such as clicking a link, setting the text to a text box etc....
• Have the registered functions to the standard keywords defined by using the "RegisterUserFunc". Here it enables you to do the basic validations with respect to the objects in the application such as checking the previous value of the text bo or checking whether the button is disabled ...etc....
• List the reusable function in the Application Under test(AUT)

Implement Automation:

• Call the respective standard keywords to do the basic actions
• Code the new functions when the standard keyword does not suffice the purpose
• Here, while coding the functions, make sure that the functions are written in such a way that it can be used as a generic function(If Possible)

For chaging the date formats to any other format using microsoft standard library file

Use the following function:

Please make sure that the dll library file file "MSSTDFMT.dll" in your operating system.
Its observed that in the recent builds of Windows 7 its not coming by default.
In that case, download the dll file and register using the follwowing steps

1. Download the file
2. Copy the DLL File into System32 folder
3. Open command prompt as administrator and navigate to System32 folder
4.  Run "regsvr32.exe "Dll File Name"
5. A confirmation will be shown as the dll gets registered successfully
